On the occasion of International Women's Day, she was conferred the Stree Shakti Puraskar, 2013 ( Rani Gaidinliu Zeliang Award) by the President of India, Dr. Pranab Mukherjee. This award was given in recognition for her contribution in creating awareness of women's issues through media and literature. Dr. Nanda has also been actively working with the women inmates of Tihar Jail, A poem from the book, 'TinkaTinkaTihar', co-edited by her and DG-Prisons.
