Urmilesh has worked with many newspapers and visual media. He played a leading role in setting up the Rajya Sabha Television, RSTV as its Editorial Head (Executive Editor) Mr. Urmilesh Anchored and participated as political commentator in several AIR (Akashvani)/DD programmes on socio-political issues, Participated in various discussions on socio-political subjects on different tv channels such as NDTV-india, Star News, ZEE News, ABP News, News24, Chanel P-7, Live India, Doordarshan (DD news), News Nation, Loksabha Chanel, Sahara Samay, BBC Radio, German Radio, Voice of America and All India Radio, Reported Parliament proceedings for Print and broadcast media for more than 15 years. Did reviews of proceedings for AIR/DD too. He has also Contributed to different newspapers and periodicals during last two decades, prominent among them were Navbharat Times, Hindustan, Jansatta, Dainik Bhaskar, Amrit Prabhat, Amar Ujala, Dainik Jagran, Prabhat Khabar, The Times of India(Patna Edition), DNA, The Hindu, Saptahik Hindustan, Dinman, Dharmyug, Pratipaksh, Shukrawar, Outlook(Hindi), Public Agenda etc.
